The Greenhouse
Newly constructed in 2019 and merged with the old barn, The Greenhouse at The Arnold House is a 24 x 70 foot tropical oasis where the temperature never dips below 60°. With over 150 exotic, tropical, and sub-tropical plants collected from far and wide you will feel as though you’ve stepped from a meadow in Catskill Mountains to a jungle in the tropics.
Outfitted with plenty of tables, cozy seating and games, you can enjoy some downtime in the Greenhouse during your stay with us . Sit amongst alocassia from Vietnam, orchids from Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Hawaii and breathe in deeply… and don’t miss the fragrant night blooming jasmine and cereus, our rare midnight tryst hibiscus, a collection of six different passion flowers, and various fruit trees: Meyer lemon, kumquat, papaya, avocado, and bananas to name a few.
This climate controlled environment, where friends and family may gather to celebrate or share a meal, sink into a yoga class nestled amongst botanical splendor, or just sit and smell the flowers where it feels like summer all year long no matter the weather outside on Shandelee Mountain. Just watch out for the spikes on our cactus collection, they tend to be prickly!

Artist, writer, and a plant nerd
Director of Gardens, Scott Woods
Scott Woods spent his childhood on his family’s tree farm in Callicoon Center, NY. Artist, author and horticulturist, Scott illustrated books for Simon and Schuster, Doubleday, and Bantam Books. He spent ten years in California working as a founding member of Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Animation.
Returning to his Catskill roots, Scott spent 2 years studying plant science nursery management SUNY Cobleskill. After finishing, he went on to work as the Nursery Manager at Everlasting Spring Garden Center, in White Sulphur Springs, before moving on to become the Head Grower in the greenhouses at the Mohonk Mountain House, in New Paltz.
Now, the Director of Gardens for Foster Supply Hospitality, Scott is excited to have the chance to lead discussions, hands-on workshops, and tours across all of our properties for guests! Don’t miss these great events, contact us to inquire about our latest workshops!
